HOW IT WORKS

Log a set in one tap.
Go deeper when you want.

The basics take a minute to learn. Everything after that is optional, free, and off until you turn it on. The same guides are in the app, under Profile → Guides.

The basics

Everything you need to train with RepCalc. Nothing to set up first.

Your first workout

Start a workout, log your sets, rest, and finish.

Where to find it: WorkoutsStart

One tap from launch
RepCalc opens on Workouts. Start on Up Next begins the workout it suggests. Empty Workout starts from scratch.
Tap a value to type it
The number pad fills in your previous set, last time’s numbers, or the target with one tap.
Tick to finish a set
The tick saves the set straight away and starts your rest timer under it.
More in each exercise’s menu
Warm-up sets, the plate calculator, supersets, Replace Exercise, and a sticky note that comes back next time.
Never lose your place
A running workout stays above the tab bar, and on the Lock Screen when you put your phone away.
Review, then save
Finish to see the workout before saving. Changed a template’s workout? RepCalc asks whether to update the template.

Templates and folders

Plan workouts once, and let Up Next choose what’s next.

Where to find it: Workouts+

Build once
Make a template with +, pick a starter routine, or let the planner build a week of them from six questions.
Save a workout you liked
Open any past workout in Activity and choose Save as Template.
Up Next rotates
Group a split in a folder and Up Next suggests the next workout in order, so push, pull, and legs run themselves.
Choose what’s next
Do Next on any template makes it Up Next until you’ve done it.

Progress and records

See how you’re getting stronger, week by week.

Where to find it: ActivityProgress

Strength, overall and by area
RepCalc estimates your strength from your best sets, overall and for each area you train.
Every exercise
Open an exercise for its history, best sets, and estimated one-rep max.
Streaks that are fair
Home counts the weeks in a row you’ve trained and the weeks you met your goal. A week in progress never breaks a streak.
Records and Muscle Balance
New bests are celebrated mid-workout. Muscle Balance shows this week’s sets per muscle group.
Volume that adds up
Dumbbell pairs count twice, and warm-up sets stay out of your totals unless you choose to include them (Workout Settings → Volume & Sets).

Apple Watch, Lock Screen, and widgets

Your workout outside the app.

Where to find it: Works on its own once you start a workout

Opens by itself
Start a workout on iPhone and RepCalc opens on your watch, with your current exercise and set.
Done and Skip from your wrist
Mark the set done as planned or skip rest. Editing stays on iPhone.
Train without unlocking
Your next set and rest countdown show on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, with buttons to finish the set or change rest.
Know when rest is over
A chime tells you, even when locked. Workout Settings can make it a loud alarm.
Widgets
Add Up Next, Streak, or This Week to your Home Screen or Lock Screen.

When you want more

Optional features new in RepCalc 1.1. Each one is off until you turn it on, and turns off in the same place.

New in 1.1

Coach

Weight and rep suggestions that explain themselves.

Where to find it: ProfileWorkout SettingsSuggestions

Turn it on

  1. Open Profile, then Workout Settings.
  2. Set Suggestions to Coach.
  3. Start a workout: each suggestion now has a reason under it.
A reason under every suggestion
“Hit 10 reps on every set last time, so +2.5 kg and back to 8.” One line, so you know what it’s thinking.
Holds after all-out sets
A set logged at RPE 10 keeps the weight instead of adding more.
Resets when you stall
No progress in three sessions? It suggests going 10% lighter and building back up.
Weights you can load
Suggestions round to your gym’s plates and dumbbells, one step at a time.
A method per exercise
Double progression, linear, or a top set with back-offs. In a workout, choose Progression… from an exercise’s menu.
RPE or RIR
Log effort the way you think about it. Only the labels change.

New in 1.1

Programs

Run a folder for a set number of weeks.

Where to find it: Workoutsa folder’s menuRun as Program

Turn it on

  1. Put a few workouts in a folder.
  2. Open the folder’s menu and choose Run as Program.
  3. Pick 4 to 12 weeks, and whether the last week is a deload.
Knows the week
Home, Up Next, and the folder show “Week 3 of 8”.
A deload week to finish
About half the working sets and lighter suggestions, on purpose.
Run it again
When it ends, Home’s Program card and the folder’s menu offer Run Again.

Gyms and equipment

The weights you can actually load, wherever you train.

Where to find it: ProfileWorkout SettingsGyms

Turn it on

  1. Your bar and plates are already saved as My Gym.
  2. Add the dumbbells you have, and any equipment that isn’t there.
  3. Add a second gym if you train in more than one place.
Switch mid-workout
With two gyms, the workout gets a small gym menu. RepCalc remembers it for next time.
Everything follows the gym
The plate calculator, warm-up sets, and Coach all use the current gym’s equipment.
Better swaps
Replace Exercise lists movements your gym can do first.
“kg each” for dumbbells
Paired dumbbell exercises say so on the weight column, and count both dumbbells in volume.

New in 1.1

Body and progress photos

Measurements, and photos that stay private.

Where to find it: ActivityProgressBody

Weight and more
Body weight, body fat, and waist, chest, arm, thigh, hips, and neck, each with its own chart.
Log weight by voice
Say “Log my body weight in RepCalc”. Your iPhone needs to be unlocked.
Only on this iPhone
Photos are never synced, exported, or put on share cards, widgets, or Spotlight. Your own iPhone backup keeps them.
No location, and a lock
Photos are picked without library access, location and camera details are removed, and Face ID can lock them.

New in 1.1

Steps and cardio

Your steps and other apps’ workouts, next to your training.

Where to find it: HomeCustomizeSteps & Cardio

Turn it on

  1. On Home, open Customize, then Steps & Cardio. It’s also in Profile → Apple Health.
  2. Turn on Show on Home, and a daily step goal if you like.
  3. Allow Apple Health to share steps and workouts.
Today’s steps
A Home card shows your steps, progress to your goal (7,000 is suggested), and a dot for each day you reached it.
Runs, rides, and swims
Sessions from Strava, the Workout app, or any app that saves to Apple Health appear on the card and in a 30-day view.
Count them, if you want
Let them count toward your weekly goal and streaks. Choose which activities count and a minimum length.
Never counted twice
The same run saved by two apps counts once, and a session that overlaps a RepCalc workout never counts.
Steps stay steps
Steps have their own daily goal and never count as workouts.
